Festivale

As you are reading this I'm probably wading my way through customs and baggage claim at Heathrow airport. Please please let my luggage have come through!
england 5

I've pre-scheduled some posts for this week because I'm not taking my computer with me on the trip. I have done before but it's one more electronic that I have to be worried about. Since I will be staying in a hostel for the first few days I will either have to carry the laptop with me everywhere or leave it locked in my bag. As I get older I become more paranoid so good old Macley is staying at home.
These outfits are things that I wore throughout February and just didn't post about. Sometimes I'll change into something else if I'm doing a different activity in the evening. Sometimes I look great on a Saturday or Sunday and just don't bother to post due to sheer laziness. So here they are! I also won't be commenting until I get back. I've taken a recovery day off to get used to the idea that my holidays are over and I'm back to work. I imagine I'll spend the whole day going through my reader, catching up with all the delights that I missed.

I wore this to go to Festivale, where we tried different types of beers and food. It was a beautiful night so we walked. It was lovely until some jerk sped up to drive through a puddle, thus soaking us top to toe! Grrr!

So Long!

So I leave on holiday today!

I'm excited for my trip. I've probably packed too much. I can't find my shower shoes which are necessary because I'm staying at a hostel for a few days and you never know what's on the floors there...
I've got my passport. I think that it's still valid. Wait... I'd better check. Yup good to go!

Have a fabulous week!! Keep warm!

Untitled*

This morning when the alarm rang I though for sure that it had to be a joke. I could have slept for weeks more!
feb 24 2011

I didn't plan on wearing my scarf all day at all. When I was getting dressed I knew that there was some reason that I only wear this shirt underneath things but I couldn't remember what it was. Turns out it's because there are little rips in the front due to delicate material in an overly enthusiastic washing machine. I had to strategically drape my scarf to hide my burgeoning hobo-itude. Note to self: Do not get dressed in the dark. It leads to hobo chic and insideout underoos...

top: Joe Fresh
scarf: ?, bought it for $5 from the University bookstore
jeans: Smart Set
booties: Red or Dead via ebay, heels sparklated by me

This outfit was entirely based on the shoes. I got them on ebay for a song. I think that originally the wedge heels were white but the previous owners had painted them teal with nail polish. I helped the effort by putting sparkles all over. Sadly, it didn't make them more comfortable...

Today I am thankful for the inventor of pedways. I was able to walk nearly half way home using the skywalks that connect the downtown buildings. Sure it takes longer but it also is a lot warmer!

* yes my brain is so full of mush that the title was the only thing that I could come up with... no really.

Warmer than warm

I really should be sorting out my laundry or clearing the clutter on my table... however I had a nap instead.

feb 23 2011

This is one of my favourite dresses. I love the colours, the way it fits and how comfortable it is. I've had it for 3 years and all the washing is sort of wearing out the colours... Oh well, I'll probably wear it until it wears out!

tights: We Love Colours

Today I am thankful for the location of the rink that I play hockey in. It's a little outside the city so that means that the stars are incredible and the sky goes on forever! The only downside is that it's in the middle of the bald prairie so the wind just rips right through you! But did that stop me from getting a Slurpee? No sir, it did not. Am I huddled under 2 blankets and a heating pad in order to enjoy it's icy goodness? Nevermind.

Either of us

On Tuesdays that seem like Mondays all I want to do is be comfortable.

feb 22 2011

In related news I've figured out that this is what I'll be wearing on the plane for however many hours it takes for me to get to Toronto, sit in the airport for 4 hours and the fly to London. Comfy, cozy and I don't look like a hobo... I think.

Today I am thankful for having many restaurants close by to my house for when I am too lazy to cook. I walked there and back with my takeout in less than 7 minutes. And, dude, it was gooood...

Science Time

This weekend was brilliant! I had a fabulous time with friends, with my family, with the Gentleman...
3 day weekends should happen all the time. I know lots of people who'd be into this.
This week I feel is going to be busy since I'll be gone next week...

feb 21 2011

Today we went to the Science Centre to run around trying fun things. Usually it's a place that you bring children but not us, oh no. It was super fun and my big achievement was standing on a balance board for 103.6 seconds (apparently the average for women is 2.4 seconds?). Then we went for dinner and the boys played some sort of video game while I happily read my book until it was time to play Wii Party...
That's a good holiday Monday if you ask me!

blazer & skirt: Ricki's
top: Joe Fresh
leggings: Dynamite
OTK boots: Steve Madden

Today I am thankful for the longer days. Walking to work when it's light out is such a joy! Not only is it much less depressing than coming to and from work in the pitch dark but it also makes the chances of me being mugged as I walk through the park slightly less. Hurrah!

Promnight!

Holiday Monday! Hurrah!
feb 19 2011
This weekend we planned to make an appearance at a Prom themed cabaret that a friend was in involved in promoting. That was the plan. Then we went over to a friends house and began watching internet videos and talking about music and learning Shakira's dance moves.  At some point I realized that I'd forgotten the tickets anyway. I couldn't have been more pleased with how the night went. Lots of laughing which is the main purpose in life. Then we walked through the cold to 2 different restaurants before finally finding one that was still serving at midnight! Honestly!
Since I thought that I was going to prom sparkles and tutus was perfectly appropriate. Right?
blazer & sparkle dress: Ricki's
belt: H&M
square dancing petticoat: Sam's from Decadence Vintage

OTK boots: Steve Madden

Remember that it's Monday and now's the time to talk about what you like about you. See Melissa and Hope for details!
1) I like the way that I carry myself. A family friend once said that I have poise and I thought that was lovely.
2) I really like my skin. It's very soft and smooth.
3) I like my general shape... my body goes in a out and that's ok by me!

Stripy Dots

Today is a blustery day. It snowed (again!) overnight and the wind is whipping it everywhere. I nearly got pushed over!
feb 17 2011

Due to roadtrip shenanigans we missed trivia last week and our team sadly sunk into second place. So tonight we've got to live up to our motto of Being Awesomely Consistant (and consistantly awesome).

cardigan: Ricki's ages ago
dress/tunic thing: Uttam London from a shop called the Crooked House
black skirt: Ricki's
leggings: Joe Fresh
OTK boots: Steve Madden

Today's picture is taken by the Gentleman Caller, thus there is only one since the others were of my being a tiger and a lemur.

Today I am thankful for scarves, hats, and gloves but most importantly for quick reflexes to grab my hat as it tries to fly away!

And now for my second trick: FBFF

1. Since you started blogging has your image of yourself changed?
I think that I'm more objective about what I actully look like. I think
before I'd have a look in the mirror and only see parts of myself. I think
that I would segment myself... In a "face is ok but sugar belly has got to
go" kinda way. I feel that now I'm able to take a step back and see my body
and my self for what I look like as a whole. And really? It's not as bad as
I would have thought long ago...

2. Are you self-conscious about any aspect of yourself? If so, do you
go out of your way to avoid it or do you post it/talk about it anyway?
I'm of the opinion that real is better even when real is not that great. So
I'm not too self-conscious, I don't think, but I think I'd be more likely to
talk about it because it is just the way it is and it's better to acknowledge
something than it pretend it doesn't exist.

3. Based on how you are feeling now, what do you think the future
holds in the evolution of your body image?
I think (I hope) that I will feel more and more comfortable in my own skin
everyday. I hope that this attitude is something I can pass to family and
friends as well. There are always struggles and good days and bad days but I
hope that the good with outweigh the bad.

4. Do you photograph yourself for your blog? If so, how do you feel
about the experience when you're having your picture taken? If you
choose not to post pictures of yourself, what prompted that decision?
I do photograph myself nearly everyday (usually I don't do weekends unless
I'm actually doing something or going somewhere). I always pick the best
pictures or the ones that show my personality the best. I don't post the
pictures where I have a quadruple chin or if the angle is really
unflattering. But I have posted outfits that I didn't feel the greatest in
and didn't look the best it because real is better. And in the end, when I
get old I'd ike to have this diary to look back on. So it would be nice if
it was an honest representation of a small slice of my life.

5. What would you want every person who struggles with body image to
take to heart?
Oh gosh. I think this is so hard for so many people. We live in a world
that tries to tell us that we must always be striving for something better.
But I would like everyone to know that they are enough. The very fact that
they are alive makes them beautiful. And everything you do is enough. And
that beauty is made of many many many factors and a good heart is the
biggest one.

Fashion Beauty Friend Friday group is organized by Katy at ModlyChic and is a way for fashion bloggers to share more about themselves and learn about each other. Nice, right?

PS Did you know that governments across some provinces in Canada realized that it was too long to go from Jan - whenever without a holiday to break up the monotony of nearly freezing to death. So they created a day off called Family Day! Which is awesome and means that it's a 3 days weekend!

Diamonds on the soles of her shoes

You people are the sweetest people on earth, perhaps of all time! Thank you for all the lovely comments yesterday. Wowza!
But I have a confession. Oh boy... So I fully planned on wearing that amazing outfit on Wednesday. I took the pictures the night before so that I could get in an extra 10 minutes of sleep. Clearly that was hubris as I didn't sleep at all. Ok for 1 hour. Too hot, too cold, stomach hurting everything achy. Complain complain. So I got dressed in the most comfortable thing I could imagine and shuffled off to work hoping that I wouldn't faint and freeze over in the park (I didn't). I came home after an hour and went promptly to bed. These photos were taken in the approximately 30 seconds that I was awake today.
BUT I do fully, extra, super plan on wearing the magical outfit of love on Friday! It's just a bit of a switcheroo...

feb 16 2011 2

Waaay less fun, huh? Also way more comfortable and made falling into bed without getting changed that much more comfy.
Beware in one of the following photos I am nearly falling over for real. Tip: Do not stand up too fast.

This sicky outfit is brought to you by Joe Fresh.
dress, skirt, leggings, scarf: Joe Fresh
cardi: Ricki's
boots: Gremlin by a brand I can't remember and can no longer make out on their beat up soles

With the remainder of my 30 seconds of awake time I whipped up some Tomato, Leek & Sweet Potato soup with what was in my fridge. And without a recipe no less!

Today I am thankful for the coziness and comfort of my Queen bed. It's perfect and I can't wait to get back in it!

Swish

So if you follow me on the Twitter you will have known that over the weekend I purchased a fairy princess skirt. Well ok, it's a square dancing petticoat but I like to wear it as it's own skirt sometimes. And by sometimes I, obviously, mean once to go to the pub for lunch (ok ok I got her to cut off the tags and I wore it out of the store!) since I only acquired this bit of heaven on Sunday.

feb 16 2011

I wanted to make this full skirt even more pouffy and give it extra twirlability! And since it's meant to get cold again I wanted something bright to take advantage of the beautiful sunshine!

sweater & skirt: Smart Set, the skirt is from 2005
tights: Celeste Stein, gift
shoes: Hard Hearted Harlot via ebay
petticoat: Sam's from Decadence Vintage in Edmonton

Today I am thankful for the sidewalks being 78% clear of snow and ice! It makes the walk to work faster as I'm not shuffling like a granny and makes sashaying and strutting that much more effective!

Revolution

It is so hot in my apartment right now! All the radiators are off so this must mean that spring is here? Please?

feb 15 2011

Last night as the Gentleman Caller and I were making our Valentine's dinner (which wasn't that different than other dinners except that we had pink cupcakes) the back and top of the stove let out a huge spark and a bang! It was so scary! And now I have to call the landlord. Which means that I have to clean my place up...
dress: Joe Fresh
leggings: H&M
scarf: gift
boots: Steve Madden

Black was all that I could muster today. I've been getting these terrible headaches and today's another bad one. Looks like I'll be sitting in my office in the dark all day. Grrrr....

Today I am thankful for Rosebud Salve. It's amazing for my winter lips and the container is so pretty!

Valentine's New Hair

Happy Valentine's day pretty people!
I had a brilliant weekend away and am so grateful for that time away. I'll post the outfits while I'm away in a couple of weeks.
feb 14 2011

I got my hair cut today and it feels so much more healthy. So hurrah for that!!

So Valentine's huh... The Gentleman Caller and I aren't really big into gifts and things. Our mini-holiday was our Christmas gift so for Valentine's we're going to make a lovely dinner of steak sandwiches and sweet potatoes.
dress: ricki's
top: Joe Fresh
leggins: Dynamite
over-the-knee boots !!!: Steve Madden

Seriously, these boots are the coolest thing! I feel so badass in them! And it's such a treat because I can rarely find boots that will go over my calves...

Today I'm thankful for good hair stylists that I can trust and make my hair soft and amazing!

Also Christine over at FutureLint is doing a feature on bloggers and tattoos. I'm in the first instalment! Hurrah for tattoos!

EDIT: Oh! I forgot that today is Monday! Which means love yourself even more day by Melissa and Hope. Ok:
1) I like my hair. Especially today when it's all pink and silky. But even when it's not I like how thick it is and that I can tie it in a knot if I need to.
2) I like how much I love looking forward to things. For me that's often the best part, the anticipation. Even though I'm sometimes disappointed I hope that I never lose that excitement
3) I like how I'm quick to laugh. Sometimes things are so annoying, stupid and ridiculous that you just have to laugh.
