The final walk

Today I had the sad business of going to a funeral. It's very sad and scary when you friends parents start to die. It's also nice to be able to celebrate the life of a good man with old friends and many people who loved him and his family.

This was a Jewish funeral and I'd never been to one before. It was very simple and beautiful. My friend and her brother got up and spoke about their dad. They did such a wonderful job. I don't know how they kept it together. After the ceremony we accompanied the family to the burial plot. It was really nice the way the rabbi said that we were walking along with her dad on his final journey. After a few words the family and friends were invited to place 3 shovelfuls of earth onto the casket. It was so final but there was something so right about being returned to the earth...
