International

This skirt was expensive when I got it about 10 years ago. But price per wear? That has gone down surely!

dec 10 2013

I seriously hope that my skirt was not flipped up all day and no one bothered to tell me! Also the tree was in the way and I didn't get a good photo. Let's pretend it's atmospheric!

All: Ricki's
shoes: Jessica Simpson

There wasn't a lot of room in front of the tree. I almost fell.

Today I'm thankful for the warmth of leather. At least that's something.

Shimmer at night

Every year the Gentleman Caller's Christmas party is pretty great. We've missed the last 2 years so I was rather looking forward to this one. It's a nice excuse to get dressed up, eat nice food and maybe even bust a move or two.

Christmas miracle

My mom wanted a new Advent Wreath for Christmas. I figured she would get more use out of it if I gave it to her earlier.

So one Saturday night I made this. Then I gave it to my mama.

I'm pretty pleased with it. Mom is too.

The Gentleman Caller came home one night with a lovely tree for us. It really feel like Christmas now.

Today I'm thankful for small lovely moments.

Pinned it and Did it: Wreath style

Today is Pinned It and Did It day with Style Journey.

But what if I did it and then pinned it because I'm sure I had seen it somewhere because surely I couldn't have come up with this idea on my own?

Their version:

nice and round and bright and shiny

My version:

circley-type shape cut out of an
Indian takeaway box + dollar store bows
(some of which have already lost their stickyness)

Still though. I kinda LOVE IT!

Grecian Sunset

Today it was -30C when I woke up. That's not even including the wind chill. I jumped into the shower and it wasn't as hot as I hoped. (Mostly due to the fact that our downstairs neighbours are ALWAYS SHOWERING! At least 3 times before 7am today!).

I changed my computer background at work to this photo of Santorini, Greece.

I love the calm blue and I have memories of it being so very warm. I was trying to evoke that feeling with this outfit.

dec 11 2013

I got so so many comments at work today about looking super colourful so I think it's working to cheer people up!

With the Christmas tree up the perspective of the camera is off. All my photos are blurry! RAGE!

Green Russians

Do you ever watch Archer?

It's crass and irreverent and funny.

In one episode they drink Green Russians and horrifying hijinks ensue.

We had some friends over and decided Green Russians would be a good idea.

Friends. They were not a good idea.

In case you wish to have this adventure too:

2 oz vodka
2 oz absinthe
2 oz milk
1 oz peppermint schnapps

Please note that if you use almond milk (on the right) it may look ever more disgusting then expected.

Today I'm thankful for drinking heaps of water.

Lace it up

All last week we involved in a giant clean up at work. That meant counting ever single item in an office, deciding what needs to be archived or shredded and then putting things in an appropriately labeled space.

nov 2013

I was part of the team that tackled an office that hadn't been cleared out for YEARS. We took out almost 3 enormous shredding bins. We found a budget from 1963! I did some shredding and it took 4 hours in an industrial shredder. Basically I walked around with dust in my hair and eyes for a week.

So there are no photos of last week. But I do have some of this pretty skirt!

Today I'm thankful for being done cleaning!

Birthday Dinner

My friend and I were born on the same day. Which means that together we are 64. We decided that she and her husband needed a night away from the kids . And I, uh, am really good at going out.

We had a lovely meal at a lovely local restaurant (lamb shank with Moroccan stew!)

Today I'm so thankful for old friends. We met on the first day of grade nine and even though we have very different lives, we're still awesome!

My adventure with eyelashes

Let's talk about eyelashes.

I'm a little obsesssed. I love how eyelashes frame and open the eye. I love how mascara completes any outfit. I love playing with different kinds to achieve looks. I usually put on mascara everyday, even if I'm putting on no other makeup. And this isn't because I'm ashamed of my natural face, I just think it's fun. One of the only times that I went without any makeup at all was in Asia when it was so hot that it would have just melted down my face.

Christmas Eve 2012 in Thailand. Not a drop of makeup.

I have always wanted long and lucious lashes so when a friend of mine offered to do extensions as part of her practicing before taking her test to become certified I jumped at the chance. I was going to get BOY ENTRANCERS! I was a little nervous because last time I had a free beauty treatment (the disaster haircut of 2006) it was a nightmare. However, I know her and trust her so I zoomed over to the spa after work. I meant to take a before photo of my lashes but it was really cold and I got distracted thinking about Vietnamese food, drove past the spa and was late. So no photo. Here's one from Cambodia when I was sick as a dog... Zoom in on not very many lashes.

I lay on my back on the table and my friend placed pads over my lower lashes. They were cool, soothing and anti-wrinkle! She took my lashes one by one with a tweezers and applied a single lash. At first it was a strange feeling but I slowly got used to it. Because of the way that the glue dried she had to go back and forth between my eyes.
The hardest part was lying still on my back with my eyes closed for 2 hours. But at the end of that there were SO MANY LASHES!!

Here are some phone photos from right after I sat up.

AWESOME right?
It's a good thing it was dark when I left because I might have gotten lost in my own eyes in the rearview mirror and driven off the road!

I love how I can wake up in the morning and not have to scrub at my eyes to get mascara off. I love how I can just wash and moisturize my face and I'm good to go! I'm not sure how long I'll be able to afford these babies or resist rubbing my eyes but for now I love them! So flirtatious!

Today I'm thankful for friends that have many different skills. I am a lucky girl!!

Ice to Meet You

Today I wanted to write about eyelashes.
But Blogger ate my post.
Either that or I only dreamt that I wrote it.
Both are equally possible.

It feels like -43 C (-45F so it's basically the same) out there. I can hear the wind howling. I wonder if my car will start. If it doesn't maybe I'll have to walk?
