2010 Review: Spring

We had the review of Winter. And now here's spring. I love the spring because after darkness, cold and snow it is so lovely for things to warm up and I always feel brighter!

* Organized a Self-Propelled Pub Crawl, it was fun but still very cold in the evenings in May!

* After about 14 years we had to put our dog, Bailey, to sleep. She was old and cancerous and in pain. I miss her still...

* Went with the Gentleman Caller to Minot, ND for a long weekend getaway. We had so much fun! Even though Minot is only about 4 hours away and Canada and US are pretty similar it was so fun to see and appreciate what was different! The portions in America are unreal! We thought that we were ordering goldfish sized fishbowls not baby shark sized fishbowls!

* 3 girls from 3 countries met in New York City! Sarah (England), Lindsay (US) and I (Canada) first met when we worked in a beautiful pub called The Anchor on the coast of England in 2006. It was so amazing to see these beautiful women and look around NYC! I loved every minute of it. And it was hotttttt! Plus Sarah and I had an adventure trying to get back to Canada...

* English Sarah was here for Canada day! It was wonderful to have my be-accented English sister here!

Stay tuned for Summer and Fall 2010!

2010 review: Winter

2010... my goodness you have gone by so fast! There were many lovely things that happened this year. Here is a non-style blog review...

* Really chilled out New Year's Eve complete with backyard fireworks!

* I really settled into living in my mini-apartment. I love it.

* Escaped this...

... for Cuba! My friend Yvonne and I went for her 30th birthday! Such a great decision! So fun!

* went to the beer festival, Festivale. Now that I know more about how beer is made and the different types I love trying new things!

* Me and my cousin, Mike, visited my little sister, Gill, in Edmonton

* bought a new computer and had a mini emotional breakdown. That computer took me to live in England for 2 years and travelling around...

* Saw Fred Penner, childhood hero, live at the University Bar. There were people with green mohawks doing the itsy bitsy spider!!
* Love!

Spring, Summer, and Fall to come!

Cozy cuddles

Lounging! Drinking tea! La la la la!
It's sunny and beautiful out today. Deceptively so as apparently it's -35 C. I was going to go for a walk around the lake but now I'm thinking that today is the perfect day to lounge about reading blogs, knitting my wobbly rectangle, drinking tea, reading and watching The Saint.
dec 30 2010

I love this tunic it's so comfy and I sort of feel like a Greek goddess in it. The problem is that it's lovely from the front but super short in the back. It doesn't even cover my bottom! And since I'm part of the leggings are not pants faction, I probably wouldn't wear this out of my mini-apartment. But it's comfy for today. Also attempting the ubiquitous 'Blogger Bun', but, as with most everything, it's a little lopsided...

Like a girl's first blush

Holidays are great. There is finally time to do the dishes and hang up clean clothes!
dec 29 2010

Also I taught myself to knit from a book into the wee hours of the morning. So far I'm making a wobbly rectangle. It's pretty successful so far...
This is my first foray into the dreaded Skinny Jean. I know it's been a trend for quite some time but I was nervous, I've only gone as far as a straight cut. I wasn't sure that they were made for someone built like me but with the boxing day sales still going on I figured now is as good of a time as any to give it a go. I tried to ask the Gentleman Caller's opinion in the dressing rooms but he wasn't helpful. I finally had to resort to chatting up another customer who was waiting for her daughter. I like women who will give an honest opinion!

Time out of time

The week between Christmas and New Year always seems like it's not real. I have the whole week off which is welcome and very very appreciated.
dec 28 2010

So far I have slept in, gone shopping with my momma, danced around to a Wii game, had a lunch date with the Gentleman, read books, and watched lots of Battlestar Galactica and Veronica Mars. Perfect! My sister was gone for Christmas so we had her gift opening tonight. We all pretended it was Christmas morning and Santa had just come!

Not a creature was stirring...

After dancing around in celebration of being off work so early I readied my apartment for my return. Yes I'll be gone for 2 days, only slightly across the city... but still. Isn't it just so nice to come home to a clean and lovely place?
christmas eve

We went to church and the priest was the one that I grew up with. He was wonderful, very real, genuine and relatable. It was a lovely service. We then went to my grandparents for appetizers and we spent hours pouring over old pictures of their ancestors. I love old photos especially when they can remember the story attached.
dress: Jones New York
blazer: Ricki's, buttons of love added by me
purple flower broach: craft fair
necklace: market in Madrid, Spain
shoes: Hard Hearted Harlot via Schuh in England
gold sequins bow tie belt: from a childhood dance costume, attached to black ribbon

(yes I realize that I've worn this dress 3 times in the last month but, really, if you can't over-wear gold in December the world is a very sad place indeed)

My friend is taking an overnight bus in order to be home with her family tomorrow morning... I took her to the bus depot and, dude, dodgy people take the bus on Christmas eve...

PS I think I just heard reindeer on my rooftop! Eeeeee!

Merry Merry Merry

 Oh it's Christmas eve!
dec 24 2010

Yesterday I was sick all day in bed but today I went to work where we were extremely productive answering the 0 phone calls and helping the 0 clients... In fact, we maybe played cards for a bit?
Me at work, working (naturally)
All the photos I took today after work were of me dancing and singing. We were off at noon and it's Christmas and that deserves a jig!

dress: Smart Set in 2005, wore it travelling and still like it
under dress: from a Noa Noa dress
leggings: Ardene
boots: Spring
glasses: Prada
necklace: market in Madrid

Thank you to everyone who pops by this little internet neighbourhood. I appreciate how small the world can seem when lovely people come together to share and encourage. Thank you...

May your Christmas be restful and relaxing...
May your heart and home be full of joy and peace...
And may you live with love and laughter always

Keep warm,
Danielle

Hear those sleigh bells...

Wait! Are they jingling? Dingaling? Ringaling Oh I don't even know...
dec 22 2010

Today was our work Christmas potluck. I work with people from many different cultures, from everywhere around the world. It makes for the very best potluck! Amazing!! Let's be honest though... Mostly I just love food!
dress: Jones New York
shirt: Ricki's
belt: H&M
leggings: Smart Set
boots: Ayla
scarf: from Book & Brier patch, where I worked for 10 years

I had to wear the scarf at work for modesty reasons. I know everyone's more relaxed at Christmas but, even so, I didn't think that anyone would appreciate the ladies coming out for a visit.
Also to maintain maximum warmth I'm sitting in bed with a cup of hot mulled wine and typing with one hand... it may be time for a nap!
