Engaging this community: FBFF

This has nothing to do with anything. I just like pictures and life is better when you have pretty ones to look at. Right?

1. Guest posts are a good way to gain new exposure. What do you think is the appropriate way to go about securing a guest spot?
I've never done this but I imagine if I were to I would email the author of a blog that I love. I would just introduce myself as a follower and explain why I love her blog and why I think that her style would fit with mine. People are friendly if you are...

2. Leaving comments is essential to growing your blog. But how can you leave a comment without coming across as ‘Follow Me. Follow Me!’?
I only leave comments if I have something to say. I'm not too concerned about getting lots of followers. I'm still shocked that anyone actually reads Keep Warm anyhow. I truly believe that we don't tell people the good things about them until it is too late. I try to make genuine comments and compliments in real life as well as on blogs. I also don't usually comment if all I have to say is "cute outfit". I want this to be a real conversation and while that may be true that the outfit is cute, chances are that she already knows that. If people choose to follow me, I'd like it to be because they enjoy some aspect of what's going on here.

3. We’ve all gotten a mass email at one time or another asking for blog exposure, a link exchange, etc… But the mass emails don’t work. How do you make your email stand out from the crowd?
Again, I really think that it comes down to being genuine and real. If something feels like it's all surface interaction only for attention... it feels kinda icky. You know, like in high school when you had friends who would talk to you but really be scanning the crowd for a cooler friend or cute boy? That's what it's like. I would only email someone if I had a real question, comment or idea and wanted their input, never never because I wanted them to become aware of this little blog. Maybe I'm just too old and tired to be playing those kind of games.

4. In interacting with other bloggers where do you draw the line between seeking support and begging for exposure?
I hope that I never come across as begging for exposure. I only read blogs that I really enjoy.  I'm just out here looking for inspiration and connection in this wide and fabulous world. Again, if it feels like someone is only commenting/twittering/emailing just to get exposure it feels forced and fake and turns me off. Real is better and people, I think, respond to that.

5. What’s one rule of engagement error you made and how have you remedied that?
I'm not sure...
I"ve probably made one or two but am sadly too un-self aware to know?
I hope that I don't ever come across as begging for attention or reaching out for the sole reason of wanting someone to reach back in a predetermined way...

Katy is the magic woman behind these questions so that we can all talk about issues and get to know each other. Cool right? Check it out at Modly Chic and you'll be guaranteed to have a good weekend!

I've read a couple of these and I have to say that I'm surprised by the level of honesty and genuineness that comes across in the answers of those who are participating. What a great project! I enjoyed reading your answers because again, I feel it allows the readers to get to know you not only as a blogger, but as a person. And I have to say that if there's something I like about you, it's the comments you always leave. One can tell that thought has been put into them and that they represent exactly what you're thinking! :)

I have to tell you that you've never, ever come across as anything less than genuine. You never seem like you're begging for attention.

And I'm very glad to have "met" you. :)
