Canadian Fan Dance

Today it was 31 degrees!!! That's 87 F for my American pals (and hey, you guys, it's Canada Day tomorrow. So you can vicariously celebrate twice this weekend!). The point is that it was HOTTTTT! After work I walked to the park a block away and parked myself under a tree with a book and some cold soda water. Oh, yeah, I'm living the dream.

june 29 2011

I couldn't even bare to put on the AC cardigan for the pictures. I might have wilted right there. Immediately after I took a cold bath and drank a glass of chilled wine and ate banana chocolate "ice cream". HOLY PANTS! It was possibly the best thing ever.

dress: H&M from my trip to NYC 1 year ago
leggings: Ricki's (I've stockpiled them)
bracelets: Spring
necklaces: both from different craft fairs
shoes: Melissa from Gravity Pope
Barcelona fan: gift from my English friend when we were there in 2008 (also helping me to keep my sanity and partial functionality)

Today I am thankful for having the chance to work with women who I respect as coworkers and really enjoy as friends. That is very lucky indeed.

Sparkly Sitting Shoes

The good thing about working part time is that I get Mondays and Tuesdays off. So every weekend is 4 days. The bad thing is that weekends are only fun when you have people to spend them with.
june 28 2011

It was so beautiful out yesterday. I cycled, and walked and patioed. And, obviously, I didn't do any of those things in these shoes. I wanted to wear them because I just sparklated them. In real life they are pretty hard to wear. They are super high and the toes are sort of turned up like elf toes, which may aide in walking but also increases the potential to fall over. The ankle strap helps to keep them in place but, on me? I'm not a fan of that strap placement. Plus I think I lost them. So here they are: Sparkly Sitting Shoes.

And now back to the good part:
leggings & cardigan: Ricki's
dress: Joe Fresh

shoes: Aldo

Today I'm thankful for people who help me to change my perspective on things that I'm upset about. Things are never all bad or all good. And that's ok. I just need to remember to trust the process and that life is beautiful.

Kicking it old school

This weekend involved sitting on patios, witnessing friends eat a seafood feast at Red Lobster and then have to go home to put sweatpants on immediately, going for lunch with the ladies, eating homemade burgers, and watching True Blood.
june 24 2011

Also I was able to ride my bike to the farmer's market to pick up some lovely things.

And the Gentleman Caller procured a free Nintendo (you know, the original one from 26 years ago). We spent Saturday night playing Mario, Duck Hunt and Tetris. Brilliant night!

Today I'm thankful for nice weather (finally) and my dad for getting my bicycle fixed. It is such a pleasure to be able to ride around. I'm about to hop on to go do my grocery shop!

Everybody heals with love

You people are amazing. The comments you left yesterday were helpful, touching and truly appreciated. It's always so important to remember that there are so many people who are in a similar situation. Thank you. From all the soft edges of my full heart, thank you.

I realized today about 15 minutes before I was meant to be at work that I didn't have a blue belt and that the outfit would have been perfect with it...

dress: Betty Page from Retrovise
belt: H&M
shoes: Red or Dead 'Maxa'

Today I'm thankful for this silly internet and how it can connect people in far off places to know that they are never alone. We all make such a difference in people's lives and for the most part we don't even know it. I'm also thankful for the way the wind swirls this skirt. It makes me feel like a lady.

This has been a really rough year for me professionally. Well, it seems rough, but compared to the majority of the world I am very blessed indeed. Last summer I left a job that paid well but made me unhappy. I loved my coworkers and the clients but something just wasn't right. I  took a pay-cut to do a job that I thought would be great. Turns out that it wasn't quite right either. Even the funders didn't think that it was a job worth doing so the project was dismantled. Finally after 2 months of waiting for new funding I'm working. Sort of. I'm only working part time with always the hint that maybe next week I might be able to work full time.
june 20 2011

I had a friend that did my numerology  and she suggested that I shouldn't make any big changes but I did anyway. And it seems like I keep making mistakes. Or at least choices that don't make me any happier, job-wise. Sometimes my brain can only focus on the things that I've lost rather than the experiences that I've had that have been lovely. I've taken an extraordinary pay-cut which makes me concerned about The Big Trip (more on that at a later date). I've left a beautiful, huge office for not even a desk of my own where I can keep my tea and lotion. I feel like I've gone from being a respected professional to someone who's opinion doesn't count because I'm only there part time anyway. And I'm complaining and I dislike it. I guess I'm just trying to figure out how to deal with life now and let go of worry. And I'm also really afraid that I'm the kind of person who is always discontented. Any hints or advice on how not to be that girl?

None of them work. I still don't know what time it is
Anyways, I'll be back to being bright and shiny tomorrow...

Today I'm thankful that I don't have to work until 10:30. There is a bright side to part time.

You said your love was fierce and I agree with you

On Saturday the Gentleman Caller and I went to our very first wedding together!

It was fun! It would have been a lot more lovely if it hadn't been bucketing down with rain at the outdoor wedding. Luckily they had a tent and everything was really laid back.

It was out in the country and when it wasn't raining it was beautiful.

The theme was Lego which was good because we couldn't wander the beautiful garden in the rain between the ceremony and the dinner. But we could play with Lego!

After a good night (with the most delicious cupcakes!) we returned to the Gentleman's house only to find that his basement had flooded completly from all the rain that we've been getting. I stepped onto the carpet and it splooshed up around my foot. We did what we could but then it was bumming us out so we went to back to my place.

You're a strangely deformed tiger!
Today I'm thankful for the chance to be able to help other people celebrate love and new life together!

Guide me to safety

We have been having the worst weather. Friday was blustery and rainy all day. I had to walk about 6 blocks to pick up these boots from the cobbler and my umbrella turned inside out 5 times. By the time I struggled  back to work I looked like the Bride of Frankenstein.

june 17 2011

I wore wedges all day but by the time it came to take the pictures I had changed to my newly fixed boots as my feet were cold and wet.
After after-work drink I went to a movie called Midnight in Paris. It was a beautiful love letter to the city and also about perils of nostalgia. Often people go through a phase where they think an earlier time would have been better to live in but this was about learning to make your own Golden Era. All in all it was beautiful!
Also, by tucking up my cardigan and belting it I felt a little like Tiffany from A Reason to Be Fabulous today!

Today I'm thankful for tea. On blustery, cold, rainy days (which we've been having waaay too many of) a nice cup of tea makes things seem cozy, instead of just depressing...

You're a zebra

I took these pictures last Thursday.
june 16 2011

I don't really remember anything about that day. Except that I was talking to my parents on the phone. And that's only because there's photographic evidence.

Today I am thankful that I have this little blog to help me remember the important and not so important part of my daily life...

Get on your bikes and ride

Today we celebrated World Refugee Day with many of the clients that we serve. The best part were the Bhutanese dancers and the Karen choir.

june 15 2011

Then I rode my bicycle around town in this dress. It seemed ideal really... But what I didn't think through was how small my apartment is and how big the bike is. I'm a bit nervous about leaving it locked outside though. But it makes manoeuvring difficult and pictures ridiculous.

cardigan & leggings: Ricki's
dress: H&M
shoes: Penny loves Kenny
necklace: arts festival
bracelets: Spring and because I bought them on the way home and didn't want a bag

Today I'm thankful for radio on the internet. I love listening to BBC Radio 1 in the morning as it reminds me of living in England. And Stereomood which gives you a playlist based on how your feeling or the activity your doing. We live in an amazing time where so many different and interesting things are at our fingertips.
