FBFF: Where?

Today is FBFF visual post. This idea was put forward by Suze. Go to Miss Vinyl Ahoy to see all the other submissions. This is about where you blog from.

I blog from my laptop in my teeny tiny apartment. Generally I'm sitting on the couch or in bed.

Occasionally if I have extra time I may write at work... like right now... shhhhh!

Today I am thankful for having extra time sometimes at work. It's not good to be too busy or too lazy. A good balance of work is good for me!

What to say about today? Nothing really. I fell asleep promptly after work, waking only in time to go to a free movie in the park.

They played Back to the Future on an inflatable screen and aside from the dodgy downtown drunks, it was really lovely. And my lovely friend who moved away had her film shown beforehand!!

Let's begin

I think that karma is a real thing. I bought this shawl/scarf thing on Saturday and it must have fallen out of my car without me noticing. On Monday I walked to my car and much to my surprise this was wrapped in a platic bag, nailed to a tree with a big LOST? sign on it. I didn't even realize that I was missing it!! I was so grateful and wanted to thank that person.

Today as I was sitting outside I looked down to discover a wallet inside a flower pot behind the bench. It had all the money still inside and a bus ticket leaving the city this evening. I turned it in and called the police. I really hope he is able to get his wallet back and make his journey tonight. What goes around comes around! The opportunity to pay it forward always presents itself.

Today I am thankful for people who want to help the world be a better place. Everyone can do something small to make someone else's life a tiny bit better. Maybe start today?

Just keep swimming

Today I was grumpy. I've been struggling with the state of my Sugar Belly and the fact that it wants to stay for a cuddle rather than disappearing.
My mom called to go out to the little independent shops so I got out of my schlumpy clothes, put on some makeup and put on some Sugar Belly skimming clothes. I guess the idea was to send a message to the Sugar Belly that even though I don't really appreciate it's non-deflating tendencies, I still am ok. I can still wear clothes that I look ok in, I can still feel ok about how I look in them. And maybe also it was a message to my brain to stop beating up on me and the belly that I have... Either way I felt a bit better about life.

Then I went to a 2 year old's birthday party. It was a baby bonanza with 3 toddlers and 3 infants! And seeing kids running around and getting their hands all sandy just so that they are able to wash them in the sprinkler, made me hope that they know how precious they are. And that as they grow up they never have the types of unfriendly thoughts that I was having about my body just a few hours before.

bracelet that I forgot to put on: gift

Today I saw this and it made me cry. It's a bunch of pictures and audio of couples who were married on the first day that NY recognized and performed gay marriage. Listening to what each couple says about what this means to them is beautiful! I love a good love story! So today I am thankful that people in positions of power are starting to realize that we are all wanting the same things: to love and be loved, to care for someone and to be taken care of, and to know that your rights as a human being are being looked after...

It's still my city

As I'm writing this I can hear every word that my neighbours across the back alley are saying. Granted, I don't speak the same language they do, so I can't really understand it but I can definitely hear it. It's 12:20am. This happens every night. Every. Single. Night. Sometimes they are out smoking. Sometimes they are talking on the telephone. Sometimes their singing sets off car alarms.

These are very weekend pictures. That means that I'm at the cottage with no makeup and unbrushed hair. Well, if I'm going to be honest about the hair, the truth is that I washed it this morning. Um, in a bucket... On the deck. Taking a full on shower with very iron-y well water was too arduous and the hot tub was beckoning. We're all about full disclosure here at Chateau Keep Warm. Lucky you.

BBQ device & slightly strained smile: potentially burning chicken

Today I'm thankful for this valley that I grew up in. It's impossible to be stressed when watching the trees  and the waves on the lake swaying to the same perfect rhythm.

FBFF: What's in my bag

Here is an FBFF visual post. This week is hosted by Marie-Eve from A Pretty Nest. You can head over to Marie-Eve’s blog to check out all the other bloggers who are sharing what’s inside their bag.

I've never been accused of being a light packer. This also stands for every day life. I like to be prepared for every eventuality! If I'm going to work I'll usually have a pair of heels and a lunch in this bag as well.

bag: Matt & Nat
Kobo ereader
blue nail polish
Rosebud Salve
Filofax daily planner
extra sauces (soy sauce, vinegar, salt, pepper) for lunches. I don't like bland food!
Olive package wallet
mini purse: Danier, gift
lip stain
mini fork - prepared!
asthma puffer
missing: Ipod... I hope that I put it somewhere for safe keeping

So there you go! Now you know what I lug around with me everyday. I really need to learn to minimize...
Happy Friday everyone!!

Starts with forever

My manager at work suddenly dropped the bombshell on us that our funders want us to open on Saturdays.  This is not ok. Frankly, I like my 2 day weekends. I might almost consider them a right.
We spent most of the evening trying to figure out a schedule that would work. The only solution is to hire another part-time person who would work on Saturday. We are terribly clever.

I finally persuaded the Gentleman Caller to go roller blading with me for date night. We felt so proud of ourselves that we went directly to a patio for sangria!

Today I am thankful for the physical ability to do fun things like rollerblading. It makes me feel strong and that people were really made to enjoy this beautiful, tricky old life.

I wore pretty much this exact same thing a month ago. I am not apologizing. I like it, it was hot, too hot to sleep at my apartment, and... um... I look good?

So questions, questions!!

So we're not going to Australia until October but have been talking about it for the better part of 2 years. We'll be going for at least a year and then who knows!! So far the plan is not to kill each other on the 47 hour journey, get to Melbourne and find jobs.

So for the next 2 months we're saving up money, thinking about packing lists, I'll be moving out of my apartment and we have to sell our cars. So, yeah, I guess we're really moving but with only a backpack and a smile!

The other good news is that today I finally got full time employment at my work! I've been waiting since April with what seemed like promises every couple of weeks! Thank goodness!

Today I am thankful for samosas. Everyone at work got one today and we crowded into a tiny office chatting and eating spicy, aromatic, delicious samosas and chutney. Yummo!

Final countdown

Mercy. I'm a melted Danielley.

july 18, 2011

I spent the last couple of days at the cottage, reading, napping, perspiring...
I wanted to go swimming in the lake but sadly 18 dead fish floated disgustingly by so that option was out. (I shudder just thinking about it).

dress & hat: Joe Fresh
modesty scarf: Portobello Road Marker, London
sunnies: Ricki's
relaxation: hammock

I wanted to soak up everything about one of my most favourite places. Especially since I won't be there for too much longer. Over the weekend the Gentleman Caller and I bought our one-way tickets to Australia!!! EEEEE! I'm so excited! I've wanted to go for 3 years but life happen and for that I am very, very grateful.

We went out for a celebratory dinner & sangria!

Today I am thankful for meeting a lovely man who makes me laugh and is willing to go traipsing halfway around the world with me on an adventure!

Can I handle the seasons of my life?

It is finally hot. Like really really hot.
On Friday we went out for a last drinks with my lovely friend who has now moved away. Patios, good friends, warm sunshine, great conversation and plenty of laughs is the perfect way to end the week.

This dress was my mom's from the 70s. I pulled it out of our dressing up Tickle Trunk a few years ago. As you can tell she was a lot less busty than I but I think that I made it work for me. The print is so pretty: cream with tan polka dots and little tan/red bees!

blazer: Ricki's
under dress: Noa Noa
dress: old, dare I say vintage?
belt: from Bettie Page dress
bracelet: gift
shoes: Fly London

In the morning I also managed to do my hair with some fancy Spin Pins ($3 on sale, bargain!). I had taken it down by the time 7pm pictures rolled around but here's what it looked like:

Fancy Schmancy, no?
Today I am thankful for the seasons of life. People and places come into your life when they are meant to. And just like summer or autumn, everything must come to an end and change. And that's ok. Just because this season is finished doesn't mean that there won't be another where we're together again...

Thursdays I start late and work late. Usually it is not very busy at work in the evening unless there are classes or groups. Often we have dance parties and my Syrian coworker teaches me how to belly dance. Tonight was unusual in that there were many phone calls and even some clients in the building. No dancing tonight.
july 14 2011

For date night the Gentleman Caller and I went for Slush Puppies and Indian Food. These pictures were taken in the dodgy back alley whilst waiting for food. It was so wonderfully tasty that even the thought of it made me dance!

top: Ricki's
skirt: Next from 2006
belt: Folk Fest vendor
bracelet: gift
hat: Joe Fresh
sunnies: Forever 21
shoes: Aldo
bag: Danier, gift

This morning my newish Aldo shoes broke! I had to Macgyver them with an elastic in order to flip flop home!

Today I'm thankful for all the locally owned, independent and ethic restaurants we have in this small city.
